Music Lessons
All Types for All Ages and Abilities
One-on-one lessons with children and adults, focusing on learning and playing familiar songs and tunes by ear.
Approach for music lessons:
My goal is for students to gain an understanding of the basics for their chosen instrument such that at some point in the future they might pick one up and have a few ideas for how and what to play
Specifically, I want students to develop an ear for playing with (and listening for) another instrument and/or voice, to begin to recognize chord families, to know several right hand techniques (strum, pick, mute), and to memorize and perform songs they like
While I use chord and tablature charts, I primarily teach by ear and generally do not use music written on the staff -- students are, however, encouraged to bring in songs/material they would like to learn
Scheduling & Structure
Lessons available Mondays-Tuesdays-Wednesdays
Afternoons & Evenings preferred, Occasionally weekends
I offer both in person (at my office in Downtown Hillsborough) and remote lessons via Zoom.
I find both have advantages—your choice
Most students find a regular time/day and stay with it for a while, some come and go as they choose
I email a few days ahead to build the schedule/confirm appointment times, with flexibility on all ends awarded and appreciated (COVID, right??)
